Putnam joined LL Funds in July 2019 as a Partner and Chief Operating Officer. Previously, he was a Partner and Chief Operating Officer of Paulson & Company, Inc., an investment management firm specializing in arbitrage and event-related strategies with peak AUM of $40 billion. Prior to Paulson, he was a Managing Director with Morgan Stanley, where he served in COO roles for the firm’s hedge fund business, was COO of the firm’s private equity, and hedge fund-of-funds businesses, and was manager of Global Strategy for the firm’s investment management business. Before Morgan Stanley, Putnam was a manager with Marakon Associates, a consulting firm, where he focused on strategy and capital structure for large banks and financial services firms. Putnam served on the Board of Directors of Motley Fool Holdings from 2008 to 2017, was President of its money management business and was non-executive Chairman of its investment business. He received an MBA from the Yale University School of Management and a BA in Political Science from Trinity College. He serves on the advisory board of the Yale International Center for Finance and is Chair of the endowment investment committee of Renbrook School.
